TIMBERLAKE’s parks and neighborhood TREES: have public health benefits with some studies showing significant impact on residents’ mental health and well-being.

With the connections between nature and health, TIMBERLAKE TREES:  allow access to recreation and exercise, in a naturally beautiful, clean and healthy, living landscape.

Under the direction of the Lake County Extension Service, a Tree Conservation and Landscaping Commission for the Village is established with its’ mission to:

  • maintain Timberlake’s urban forest through the use of proper planting, trimming, and removal techniques
  • fertilize, prune, and repair of any and all tree wounds on existing shade trees in public areas within the Village
  • educate the residents of Timberlake about the importance of trees and landscaping as they impact our quality of life
  • advise and support Village Council on issues affecting our urban forest.

There is hereby established a Tree Conservation and Landscaping Commission in and for the Village. (Ord. 1984-16. Passed 10-16-84; Ord. 2006-5. Passed 2-21-06.)

(a) The Tree Conservation and Landscaping Commission shall consist of a minimum of five members and a maximum of seven members. (Ord. 1986-7. Passed)
(b) The members of the Tree Conservation and Landscaping Commission shall consist of the Mayor, the Chairperson of the Recreation Committee of Council and a minimum of three electors and a maximum of five electors of the Village. All electors of the Tree Conservation and Landscaping Commission shall be appointed by the Mayor for a period of three years, and any vacancies in the foregoing terms shall be filled by appointment of the Mayor with the approval of Council. Members of the Tree Conservation and Landscaping Commission shall serve without compensation. (Ord. 1984-16. Passed 10-16-84; Ord. 2006-5. Passed 2-21-06.)

The duties of the Tree Conservation and Landscaping Commission shall be as follows:

(a) To study the problems and determine the needs of the Village in connection with the Tree Conservation Program;

(b) To recommend to the proper authority the types and kinds of trees and landscaping to be planted on Village property;

(c) To assist the properly constituted officials of the Village in the dissemination of the guidelines set forth by the Urban Foresters of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources; and

(d) To advise residents of the Village as to relevant ordinances governing the Tree Conservation Program and to issue permits regulating the planting, pruning or removal of Village trees. (Ord. 1984-16. Passed 10-16-84; Ord. 2006-5. Passed 2-21-06.)

The Tree Conservation and Landscaping Commission shall provide for the issuance of permits for the planting, maintenance and removal of any and all trees in public places within the Village and, further, shall provide for the pruning and removal of any and all trees on private property which endanger the public safety. The Village shall actively seek financial aid from any and all local, State and Federal agencies to provide economic support for the foregoing Village Tree Commission.

Councilman Kevin Thompson is the Official responsible for legislation relating to the Trees with Council, the Mayor, Residents, and Tree Commission Members to maintain trees on public property, parks, median strips and islands, and along the streets along the right-of-way.
